One of Shadwen’s party tricks is organising ‘accidents’ with crates, barrels, and other bits of scenery that can be used to crush or explode the hapless guards. Occasionally though the peculiar combination of features does coalesce into an entertaining set piece. If a guard sees you he’ll almost certainly kill you instantly, and there’s nothing you can do but plan better the next time. The game probably would’ve been unplayable without these safeguards, as the artificial intelligence is ruthlessly efficient in that cheap, semi-cheating, way of games where the developer hasn’t bothered to add any element of fallibility. Especially as there’s also a rewind option to cover up any of your mistakes, although most of those are likely to be due more to the wonky physics engine than human error. The gimmick with the time control is perhaps the most useful aspect though, as it’s very handy for performing complex Spider-Man like acrobatics with the grappling hook. Lily is easily the most frustrating aspect of the game, but it’s not as if the rest of it works without issue either. Of her own accord, she runs into view when she shouldn’t and ignores your instructions when she should.
What isn’t a matter of choice is getting both Shadwen and Lily to the end of each stage, and even if you’re doing your best to hide bodies and keep her out of the way Lily’s terrible artificial intelligence is almost impossible to control or predict. If she does it’s not the end of the game, but she becomes traumatised and her personality alters as a result. So instead you not only have to sneak past guards but try and make sure Lily doesn’t see any act of violence or its aftermath. But unfortunately none are ever really forthcoming. As unlikely as the set-up may seem all it needed was a few half decent plot excuses to justify it and you would’ve taken it for granted.
If that premise sounds a little contrived, then that’s exactly how it comes across in the game. Although it’s not just the risk of discovery that stays your hand, but the fact that you’re trying not to reveal what you’re doing to an orphan girl named Lily. The pseudo-medieval setting and prominent use of a grappling hook is very reminiscent of the old ninja simulator, as is the emphasis on staying out of sight and not resorting to violence unless absolutely necessary. cheat. For those that have been waiting years for a new Tenchu game this may be the closest you get for some time.cheat.givePoisonDartMine() gives 1 poison dart mine.cheat.giveCraftingRecipes() gives you all of the games crafting recipes.cheat.giveCraftingMaterials() gives you all of the games crafting materials.cheat.giveItems() gives you one of each item in the game, excluding weapons such as traps.cheat.giveTraps() gives you one of each trap type used in the game.cheat.giveAll() gives you all the items and trap weapons in the game.cheat.changeCharacter() changes the character you control.cheat.makeChildNotMove() makes the child stay still.cheat.makeChildUndetectable() makes the child undetectable.cheat.makeAiBlindAndDeaf() makes enemies not react to player. Here is a list of working cheats in-game: Teleportation does not cause the time to move if you are not moving manually at the same time.
